Flower/ Nature Re-Sizing Images Experiments.

When I went to edit this picture and to change the size image I wasnt sure wether to change the size image to a smaller one and crop out the bits at the side, I went on the crop button on Photoshop which is (shown above) and the result of the image the (shown below)   (continued underneath)

As you can see the image has been significantly sized smaller and I wasnt sure wether to keep this image like this or to change it back to what it was. I liked the focus of the plant though as you can see underneath and it give sit ore focus and attention onto the flower.
The only thing I dont like as well is the actual shape and look of the image. I think it looks really small and square. which is maybe what its supposed to look like but theres something about it what isnt really taking my fancy.

In the end I have chosen to go for my original picture because the shape of it is just better, even though I had to crop it down to fit the poster size I managed to get the side bits in what really matter.

Final Image and Original Image:

The same principal applies this image as well, there is allot going on in the photo of the same thing that I wanted it to be all included but I wasnt sure wether to or not or to crop some out of it.

As you can see, the screen shot above is what it would look like if it was 20 x 16.. this would mean that half of it would be crpped out and would just look like a frame photo.
My next idea would be that i would change it to a panoramic image which then would at least get most of the image from either side and the middle.
                              The outcome is underneath.

As the photo shows i struggled re sizing this image becayse it was going to cut out some of the side duck. I worked out with Steve that one way or another the bird would have to get cut out, but now it has i dont think that its a major set back because the main focus of the picture is on the chicks.

More Colour Experiments

I had decided that I wanted this flower image in my Colour category.. When I first edited the photograph I wanted it to be a bit more vibrant so I then chose to multiply the saturation up which makes the photo instantly colourful, I then thought to myself well the background itsself isnt a vibrant as the man image so I wondered what itd be like to bring the focus foully on the flower which is spectacular.

I then had an idea to add another layer to the image and then change the background to black and white. I would then get a brush and carefully go around the flower colouring back in the main flower, as I am not greatly experienced with photoshops i found whenever I made a mistake the eraser didnt make the image return black and white it made it black so i could only undo my work.. I then decided because I had mistakenly continued with keeping some green leaf parts in the image I decided to go round in a circle shape including them in the image. (as shown left)

I then got the original edited saturation image up and the edited photoshop one and placed them side by side and asked myself which one would look better in either my portfolio or my assignment work. I have gone for the image on the right because however much eye catching the one on the left is i prefer the right because ersonally it looks more tidier.

With the image above, when Ichanged the size to 2-x16 i would find that it would cut most of the image out which is not what I  wanted to happen so i would have to rotate the image from 90degrees to a 180degrees so that it would fit the image, I also found out that i could have another size which sometimes benefitted the image.

Evaluation

My work is about taking 36 images of 6 different type of subjects, each being Sport, Nature/Flowers Weather, Abstract, Colour, and Still Life.
For this assignment we had to choose 6 categories of our choice and take 6 images from each category of according to what we like, we were also able to edit the photographs as much as we wanted to.

Still life was one of the easier images I could take for this assingment, with the chosen images I have got for my final 6 I have enjoyed photographing them all, the chocolate was a 'out of the moment' inspiration image with the Macro Lens which i enjoyed using, i didnt actually edit that photo much because of the colours that it already had made the image automatically special. The christmas decoration deer was quite a challenge in itself, I used my Canon 1100D and fount it difficult because it would stay upright, I then decided to use some tinsel underneath it so I could make it look more glittery than it already was. I finally managed so make it upright and make sure the bacvkground was plain also otherwise the distraction would be there.
With the elephant I imaged I had an idea with the other animals that they were going to act as a silhouette with a black shapes against the studio wall but the problem was that we needed the light to really be close to the ornaments but when it was there was no room for the camera to go so it wouldnt be photographed in the right position. I managed to change it to just the elephant on the wooden stand and it gave off a nice shadow so I decided to keep that as one of my last 6 images.
I fount out working with a Macro Lens was a very creative time for me, I feel like I can go to different levels with my photography than using just a nromal camera lens, I decided to mess around with some images i was taking and to see how close i would go, i took this image which was origionally gold and started to edit it too see what some different looks would look like. I then changed the colour tone of the image which gave me this final look what really made it looks like what it was, a christmas decoration, this could also be places in my Abstract images as well I think.
My last image can also be like an abstract if i didnt take the other stiff life image or changed the colour of it. Ilike the way most of it is in focus and the colours show up really well. I also like how you can see through the photo and through the front bit without failure so youre not just looking at the front row of the image.

When I was working on Weather I fount it was the most challenging photoshoot I had ever been on. The weather was not fantastic but I thought that the image what came out of it were good. I had mainly gone for the rain type of weather and snow, people might think it is a bit repetitive i havnt varied my weather images to frost as it was frosty but there are different thing about each rain image what makes them all look different. When I had took a picture on my phone of frost it can be deceveing because it looked clear and a good positive photo but when I photoshopped it, zooming in it looked grainy. The blue pole image is off a shelter where I noticed water droplets were dripping, I had an idea to take some images of it going quicker but i couldnt get the shot so i need to brush up on my skills of that. I decided to take the image of all the water droplets in a row which has a nice effect and edited some parts of the pole to neaten up the image a little bit. I used a website to help me edit the image of the seagull which I enjoyed editing but I had to try and make it as realistic as possible.

For the Flowers/Nature these are definitely some of the more natural images I have taken. Not all of them needed re touching and editing, only one the duck one and the chicks I have cropped so I can keep the attention of the audiences eye without looking at the background. I have also slightly turned up the saturation notch so it can look more colourful but not too much. I have also done that on my flower images, too much saturation made the flower lose its actual shape, you couldn’t see the outline of the plant, so only a little editing would make both these flowers stand out in front of its background. With the chicks and the ducks all in a row from left to right I had to make this a panoramic image and struggled slightly. When I cropped the image there was always going be a bit of the duck missing on the end so I had to rotate the image to get everything included in the photo which then worked out nicely

For the Abstract images I really enjoyed taking these. I personally think that these are some of the best images I have created. At first I was very wary on what I would take but when I came onto the subject of Abstract and the thought, then I didn’t really seem too off putted about what to take, I had done my research on what other famous abstract Photographers were taking in their work and gave me a great sense of idea, The main artist I took ideas from was Ciro Totku, the compositions of his images were inspiring how you think you could know something but the element of difficulty still remained.. I also love the positions of where the objects lie in the images. They are not based in the middle of the image all of the time, the papers are at the top, the building is to the left, the cans of paint are central, the leafs are on opposite sides. I have photographed 6 separate objects; I won’t say what they are because that ruins the element of Abstract. The first one came me and should come to a photographer when you look at something but you look at it in a different way, you shouldn’t just look at it, you should look at it in different ways, different views and angles this made me take a photo of a small piece of it, this can really make an image more curious.
The second image was an object when I was using the Canon Macro lens, I enjoy taking close up images and I thought I would take this one as I am really interested in taking images of textured objects. I then edited it so the colour wouldn’t look as obvious to show what it is and loved the outcome of the image. The third was then taken where I went to a certain place, I was wary of this image because you can sort of tell what it is, instead of rotating the image I remained it on its side and edited it to monochrome, when asking other what they though they felt like black and white suited it better most. The next one was a random photograph which I didn’t intend of taking but because of what was on it I thought I would try. I like the image because only a little of it is in focus and that’s all you need really for you to think ''I don’t know what it can be''. The last image was fun editing it because I wanted something quite extravagant and the colour really shows this, I was worried people will know what it is but with some artist research on a few abstract images I then saw that you could work out what it was so maybe not everything in the image has to be 'unknown'.

For the Colour photographs I couldn’t really find the inspiration I needed to take the images. I knew that I wanted it to be something colourful so it really showed the definition of what 'Colour' was; I then started to brainstorm ideas on what was colourful around me what was also practical. I then saw that I had colours right in front of me...
I used the tinsel with bedroom lighting and saw how it gave out a great shine to the camera which is perfect for what I needed; as well as the obvious colour. I took a photo and instantly liked the results of it, I then though how can I make a better image of something so good? For which I changed the camera settings to a faster shutter speed and moved the camera around this gave me my second image which I automatically loved. The thing which I loved about the image was how the colour seemed to be warping in between each other and the fact that in the middle of the image some of the sharpness and focus remained. For the other colours images I decided to take some images of the flowers I had in the garden because where else could you find such colour? I decided to change my theory a bit and do everything a little bit different than what normal photographers do but I decided to change the angle of it so it would look different, the only down thing about working at that angle is that on the side of the image there is a part of the picture where it isn’t a flower and the audiences eye might get distracted but that area is out of focus which then leads you back. With many of my colour shots I have edited them so that the saturation is higher which really brigs out the colour what I wanted; except from the tinsel which was already colourful enough for my personal liking.

For Sport this was not my favourite of subjects because of the conditions I had to take these images in, it would have had to have been the hardest subject and the most skilful required, going out to the astro turf was simple enough but without having the longer lens to travel to the other end of the pitch was hard and was a patience game waiting for the players to come back to the other end. When that happened I had to be right on time and some images show this and some look slightly effective. The other images I enjoyed taking and found it quite simply to do, I changed the angle of the images so they were looked at different and the only editing I did for them was t make the background look brighter.

Not many of my ideas had changed, the only what was constantly changing was what I was going to take and what images i were to have in my final 36 images. I had taken all the photographs that I wanted it was just how many of them was I going to use and which ones were the strongest out of them all.

The equipment i have used is the Canon1100D and also i have added a Macro Lens on the end of it so i can shoot my close up shots. Many skills i have used for this assignment has been testing and i have had to of used many different shutter speeds which I struggled with to get perfect.

I had a few problems with sorting my ISO and shutter speed out on the football match images, although I did not have a tripod I was unable to perfectly get the running shot of the footballers perfectly without camera shake. The lights were good though as they were very bright and I only had to change my ISO up a few notches to capture that. Some of the subjects in the still life was hard for example I was trying to keep the ornament still even though it was constantly collapsing on me all the time.

there have been around 4-5 artists who has influenced my work; they would be Bob Martin for sport the way that his images are so colourful, hencec why i have slightly pitched up the saturation for all of my Sport images,  Ciro Totku has inspired me greatly for the Abstract Images where you can see what they are in a few but still gives you the sense of cluelessness. For colour I looked at a man called Joel Meyerowitz, although he is a colour photographer he doesnt really have allot of colours showing in his work, I like the different compositions in the work. For weather i have also looked at Jim Reed.

I am around 95% happy with my final images. Some of these images I am very pleased with and would like to place in my portfolio of work. Some of these are really strong and i am surprised how well organised i am for this assignment, if I was to do this again I would wish to be in a different town and the variation of the image types can be spread out allot mroe than his one, but i am happy with my result of work, and the amount of hard work I have put into this assignment.

Research #2 Epictura & I stock photo Images.

For my Research i have been told to go onto the Epictura Website and to choose and describe images which are in Monochrome, I have picked out a few of these images and will be expaining why i like it in Black And White and also how it looks effective without the colour in them.

I have chosen this image in perticular because of the different compositions of the image, there is nto so much going on in this image that even though you can see the background, it doesnt put you off what the photographer wants you to see. The moving of the escalator shows many lines in the image and is caught at a good pace with how fast it moves, The square of the briefcase shows shapes in the image, Maybe it is portraying how such a busy work place can be caught in pure still motion perfectly.

This portraiture image appeals to me also, not because of the fact that I like dogs, which i dont but the contrats of the image. I think that for saying this is a black and white image, it has been thought out well, for all we know this dog could have a really nice well groomed brown skin coat, but putting this image in black and white and using the correct lighting which has been done in this studio where it has been shot, also guives it a great sense of shine, many parts of the body are lit so that none of the body is in shadow missing out. The dog food/toy bones really light the image well and shows a great proportion that theyre in the midde of the image and not to the left or right so everything is made central. Also i have noticed how i like that the background of this image isnt just a plain white or a plain grey. Its almost got a cloud look effect to it which really blends in with the grey black and white image.

I like this image because its one of those images which are caught at the perfect time maybe if they had left it a few moments later then there would have been a pile on and it would look too busy, but they have captured it at just the right time and it shows a great sense of family. The black and whiteness of the image almost makes it look like this photo was a moment in time paused.

I like this image because of the variety of contrasts this picture shows. It also gives out a great amount of colour even though the ironicness is that its meant to be in black and white. This shows a great story. perhaps this man in the image is really stressed but the calmness of the photo doesnt reveal that. Even though the clutteredness of the work and job shows with all the papers surrounding everywhere.

I have chosen this image as well to be one of my favoutites simply because of the colours in it. I think some people would tink that they should have stayed with the original photo because it has so much colour involved because every type of chip has a certain colour what represents the price but because this is in black and white it really brings out the black deep dark shadows of the chips and does it justice at the same time for being black and white, some might think that the choice for monochrome would be contriversial here.

Photo Box Research.

We have been assigned to go onto the PhotoBox website so that when our images are ready and if we have an potential buyers we have to re size our images to the website we have been given. The website we are re sizing and printing off on is www.photobox.co.uk .

We were to go on Prints > Then Poster Prints > then we would choose on the right hand size and select what size we would like the images to be. We have been told that the correct size image for our photographs should be looking at a maximum of 12 x 16

In some cases if our photographs are panoramic photos then we have been told to change the size to a 21 x 8  or a 21 x 12.

Here are a few images of the print screens of the website which refer to this information we have been giving about re sizing the images.
Also i will upload on this part of the blog how one photo will have to be a panormaic size.

Photobox > Prints > Poster Prints

Then the Poster Prints page will load and will look like this; all of the corresponding sizes what you can choose from are all on the right hand side. When we look to size our photos this is where we will be choosing the 20 x 16.

To change the size and shape of the image for example if you wanted to print a panormaic image off then you would have to click the product above as shown below; you can either choose from, Rectangular, Square or Panoramic.

You are then given the 3 chosen sizes variation for the type of panormaic image you want, (as shown below)
Every image taken should be edited to the number of 300 DPI and to be made sure that the photo size has changes into inches and not centimeters.

To show that we understand how to change the image sizes we have to go onto facebook and upload our images we want to change. We do this and the click on the crop button and then choose a size image which is  is 20 x 16 but for this image we have done 16 x 20 so the photo can be cropped so its all included in the image.

The first image shows what the original picture was like. I thought that it would include the rest of the image but there isn't.

Steve then mentioned that I would have to change it from 20 x 16 to 16 x 20
